We Love Windermere!

Have the best of both worlds when visiting the South Lakes and choose Windermere Village to stay at instead of Bowness.

Who can fail to love this area where everything is on the doorstep yet there are still plenty of secluded locations to explore? But it has to be said, Bowness because of the boat moorings, cruise jetties and attractions is an extremely busy place for of hustle and bustle. For some, this isn’t the best location to stay.

But then Windermere is by no means void of facility or life. Firstly, it is home to the train station so travelling to the Lake District by be done by rail (handily connected to the West Coast Mainline) and a choice of accommodation from B&B’s to hotels and self catering cottages and apartments. Windermere also has many facilities including shops, butchers, services, pubs and cafes, banks and garages.

Windermere has everything you need, even the views

And then the town is by no means out of the way being just a leisurely 1 mile walk from Bowness where yet more restaurants and pubs await, different shops and the main draw, the lake. Lake Windermere, just 1 mile from Windermere town centre where paths run alongside the lake for walking or cycling and ferries can be taken across, up and down it as well as boat hire. To continue a car free holiday then Windermere bus station, right next to the train station is a stop on the major 555 route that runs the length of Cumbria taking in Kendal, Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick.

In the evening then Windermere is a hub for foodies with choices of chilled bars through to restaurants and some excellent dining to be had in the hotels in the village too. Applegarth Villa Hotel & Restaurant in Windermere is one such place with a delightful conservatory restaurant and relaxing lounge bar. Hotel guests staying in any of the rooms or luxury hot tubs suites between Sunday and Thursday are treated to dinner for free on one of the evenings but the restaurant is also open to non residents also. Top Tip: Go there also for afternoon tea and sit looking out over the park and the fell tops.

So for pleasurably relaxed accommodation with great food and facilities, choose Windermere to stay on your next visit to the Lake District.
